Christmas Village Returns to Tumon

November 27, 2015

(Tumon, Guam) The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) is proud to announce the return of the Christmas Village to our island’s tourism capital from November 27, 2015 – January 8, 2016. As part of the GVB’s Holiday Illumination Project, the Christmas Village features a “Christmas on Guam” theme with the holiday lights to operate daily from 6 p.m. to midnight. The site contains a 25 foot Christmas tree as well as cultural elements of Guam's Christmas season, which includes a life-size belen (nativity scene) and a stationary carabao train. Music will also be played in the background.

“GVB’s Christmas Village is an iconic part of our community,” said Acting Governor Ray Tenorio. “This is just a corner of Tumon that we use to highlight the Christmas celebration. We have the belen, which is life-size. You also see snoopy over there and the characters you see in the international theaters and our films on display. There’s a waterfall over there and Santa and a very tall tree. But everybody, this is about celebrating Christ and his sacrifices made for our island and our world, and the honor that we give him in Christmas time to celebrate the things that are important to us: our family, our love of our country, and of course, the things that made us who we are today. So on behalf of Governor Eddie Calvo, the entire Calvo Tenorio administration, thank you all for being here, and of course, Guam Visitors Bureau, thank you very much for your great leadership again this year.”

“GVB is celebrating everything that makes our island home the best place to live, work and visit during the holiday season,” said GVB General Manager Nathan Denight. “We’re happy to welcome the Christmas Village back to Tumon and look forward to greeting families that have made this experience a long-standing tradition. Christmas on Guam is one of the unique ways we showcase our rich Chamorro history and culture. We invite our local residents and visitors to stop by and enjoy the Christmas Village through the new year.”

The Christmas Village is in the heart of Tumon at the vacant lot located across Proa Restaurant & GVB. Special thanks is given to Mr. & Mrs. Jack Woo for allowing GVB to utilize their property multiple times for various events.

Public parking is also be available on-site, as well as Governor Joseph Flores Memorial (Ypao Beach) Park.

In addition to the Christmas Village, the First Lady’s annual Magof NocheBuena Peace Festival at the Government House in Agana Heights will start on December 5, 2015 at 6 p.m.
