GUAM SUMMER BEACH FEST TO BE “HOT HOT HOT”

July 14, 2016

GVB signature event to be filled with seven weekends of live entertainment, food and family fun

(Tumon, Guam) – The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) announced today that opening weekend for the Guam Summer Beach Fest at Governor Joseph Flores Memorial Park (Ypao Beach) in Tumon, begins this Saturday, July 16 with a festive line-up of live entertainment from local and international performers from Guam and Japan and beach friendly activities for the entire family.

Senator Tina Muna Barnes, Chairperson of the Committee on Tourism said, “This signature event will definitely bring our local people and visitors together to share in what we are known for – our hospitality. This also helps us develop our relationship with our visitors, and what better way to do this than on the beach and with food. It’ll be seven weekends of fun and a celebration of who we are as island people.”

Nathan Denight, GVB President and CEO noted that GVB works to create events that are great for Guam’s local community first that would be great for the island’s visitor as well.

“We wanted to get people outside this summer to enjoy Guam’s most beautiful assets – our beaches and scenery. We have many talented musicians on Guam and great international talent who will travel to Guam to perform on our stage on the beach with Two Lovers Point as our backdrop,” said Denight.

The Guam Summer Beach Fest will run for seven weekends through Sunday, August 28, 2016. GVB invites residents and visitors to spend their Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the beach.  GVB also welcomes the launch of the new Tumon Night Market as part of the event. The Tumon Night Market will be located in the north lot of the Gov. Joseph Flores Memorial Park, with the Guam Summer Beach Fest activities taking place in close proximity to the beach. Plans are in store for Tumon to enjoy a dedicated Friday night market after the festival is over.

“I want to personally thank Governor Calvo, Lt. Governor Tenorio, Senator Barnes and the Guam Legislature for their support of this new event,” Denight added. “We also couldn’t have done this GVB signature event without the help of key government agencies such as Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Public Works, Department of Public Health and Social Services, Guam Fire Department and Guam Police Department. Si Yu’os Ma’ase to all of our sponsors and to everyone! We hope to see you for the next seven weekends!”

Kicking off this event this Saturday is local progressive rock reggae band, The John Dank Show, concluding their four-week U.S. cities tour with their performance at the Guam Summer Beach Fest.

“It’s good to be home!,” said Frankie McJohn, lead singer for The John Dank Show. “You can expect to hear a lot of new music this weekend, including the new song that is playing on the radio called EZ4U.”

McJohn also announced that the band will release its new full length album on Liberation Day.

Also on Saturday, Guam’s all-girl group, The Dolls, will play the song they originally wrote and produced for the Guam Summer Beach Fest – Hot, Hot, Hot (For You) – which will be included in their new album that releases later this summer.  Alice, a pop singer from Japan who is half Guamanian and half Japanese, is travelling in from Japan to perform on Saturday and Sunday night. A fireworks show over Tumon Bay will close out Saturday night’s events at 9:00 p.m. A Miller Lite beer garden will be open each night of the beach fest. On Sunday, the Guam International Film Festival will play their Encore Family Showcase on the beach. G.I.F.F. will play animations and shorts that the entire family will enjoy.

GVB thanks Guam Summer Beach Fest sponsors Miller Lite, Pepsi, Hanom, the Stations of KUAM, Docomo Pacific and fireworks sponsor Pacific Islands Club. Special thanks are also given to the Guam International Film Festival.
