April 24, 2014

Event features culture, food & music of the region

(Tumon, Guam) The Guam Visitors Bureau, United Airlines and DFS Galleria Guam are pleased to welcome delegations from around the region for the 27th Annual Guam Micronesia Island Fair. The “Legends of Micronesia” event begins tomorrow through Sunday and will celebrate unique stories, art and culture.

“We are excited for our local community and visitors to truly experience the magic of Micronesia,” said GVB General Manager Karl Pangelinan. “GMIF has been a cultural hub to share a piece of the islands all in one place. As we celebrate our legends in 2014, it is our hope to create more stories that can be told for many generations to come.”

A full plate of food and beverage vendors, artisans, exhibits and entertainment will be situated along the grounds of Governor Joseph Flores Memorial Beach (Ypao) Park in Tumon.  The public can look forward to an all-star lineup featuring Grammy-award winning reggae group “Inner Circle”, Kapono and Marianas Homegrown. Matua Sablan, Shiabe Pangelinan, Osten Sarulu will also take the GMIF stage in a special Chamorro Music Legends Tribute.

In addition, the GVB signature event will host a “Heroes Homecoming” celebration in special recognition of the nearly 600 Guam National Guard soldiers that recently returned from their deployment to Afghanistan. Those festivities will take place on Saturday, April 26.

The 27th GMIF would not be possible without the support from its gold sponsors: Bank of Guam, Miller Lite, IT&E, Westin Guam, Pacific Island Club, Hertz and the stations of KUAM. Additionally, GMIF bronze sponsors include Guam Plaza Hotel, Hilton Guam, Pepsi, Cycles Plus, Mr. Rubbishman, No Ka Oi, Pacific Daily News, Matson, Paradise Limousines and iRecycle.
